Epidemiology Study PresentationAn Epidemiology Study to investigate the problem This presentation describes a research project being undertaken by Professor Christine Moffatt. Professor Moffatt is trying to establish a national framework for the provision of lymphoedema services through her research. The project is being undertaken in Wandsworth, London. All medical services are being asked to look at their records, and identify people who have lymphoedema (obviously observing issues of client confidentiality whilst doing so). This can range from the lymphoedema clinic, to doctor surgeries, district nurses and other sources of support. Patients are then being interviewed to gain more understanding of their situation, their support and ways in which they feel this could be improved. The aim is to produce statistics detailing the incidence of all forms of lymphoedema, symptoms, causes and any treatment received. From this, Dr Badger will then take the information forward, not only within that particular Health Authority, but to a higher governmental level, which may shape lymphoedema provision, nationally, in the future. It is an extremely important project, from all aspects. Dr Badger has approached lymphoedema clinics in certain areas, and also asked for their support in looking at lymphoedema incidence in their areas. Obviously, being able to inform national provision of services is in its infancy at this stage, but it is a very important and dramatic step to take towards improvement of the current situation.
